José María Jardines, a native of Cadiz , studied at the School of Fine Arts in his hometown, and then at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in San Fernando in Madrid . His career as a painter developed in Paris for several years. He held exhibitions in the French capital, as well as in Cadiz and Madrid. In 1914 he returned to Cadiz, where he was professor of the Academy of Fine Arts.
Jardines is included in the National Contemporary Catalog and in One Hundred Years of Painting among other bibliographic resources on art in the Iberian Peninsula. The Frick Art Reference Library (New York) has a collection of photographs and reproductions of his works.
His son and disciple was the painter Antonio Jardines (Paris, 1898 -).
